Alligator Hunts
Alligator hunting on Florida public water is one of my favorite adventures and I gladly travel across Central Florida to help you fill your tags! This is public water hunting under FWC rules, trying to fill alligator tags that you have applied for and were successful in drawing.
If you drew a tag and your friend ends up backing out on you, or you quickly find out it's harder than you thought as a DIY hunt, give me a call and I will bring the equipment needed to harvest and transfer your alligators.
If you want help deciding what zones to apply for, reach out early and I will give you my thoughts, water clarity reports, and scouting reports. Method of harvest can greatly be enhanced by pre-application planning. Bow hunting a public water gator in very dirty water or a lake full of hydrilla is much harder than on a very clear lake. The better the planning, the better the experience.
I can provide a fully lighted bowfishing boat for more open and clear water, allowing for bowfishing or gigging after your tags are filled, or even as we travel along looking for gators. This set up has quickly become my favorite for harpoon hunting as well, as it offers the best visibility and quickest identification of the target. For the super hydrilla filled lakes such as Orange Lake, I use a surface drive set up to manage the swamp!
I provide harpoons, rod/reel and snatch hooks, bow/arrow and float system if desired, or rod/reel bait systems and bait (beef lung or the magic "floating chicken"!). You are welcome to bring your own equipment and when bow hunting that is often advised. Method of kill is your choice, but it must be inside FWC rules- no firearms other than bang sticks are allowed on public water hunts.
So far in 2025 every hunter has had 100% opportunity for gators over 6' long, on the surface or visible laying on the bottom, at under 6' from the hunter. Misses, opportunities not taken, passed gators, pull offs and gators tangling up in stumps/logs are part of the adventure and keep it exciting. Public water hunting is as challenging as it gets, and if you are really interested in a trophy sized lizard, you should plan for multiple nights. 2025 included hunts on Orange Lake, the Withlacoochee River, Rodman Recreation area/Lake Ocklawaha, and Lake Hatchineha. We boated almost 20 midsized to big gators and hand caught dozens of little ones for a little addition to the adventure!
Price: 1 to 4 people- $750 per 12 hours or for 1 gator harvested, and $500 for each alligator harvested- for as many gators as your group has tags for! I have no trophy fee and no size requirements. This is your adventure, and I will help you harvest whatever gators make YOU happy. Catch and release is legal when using snatch hooks, unlike all other methods, so marginal gators don't have to be harvested. Travel expenses will be extra if traveling extreme distances or overnights are required.
