Captain Matt
I grew up in Iowa, the full small town, farm boy experience, this is where I got the nickname Yami. The outdoors has been my obsession since I was a child. Books by Peter Hathaway Capstick and George Reiger helped me realize how big the world really is. A 50 lb Amberjack in 1985 opened my eyes to salt water and everything else has been practice for being a fishing Captain in Florida! Guiding for deer, turkeys, and pheasants, hunting or fishing in most of the US and multiple countries and my deep seated desire to share my life with others has led me to start Yami Outdoors.
As an extremely accomplished outdoorsman I know what it takes to harvest world class fish and animals. I want to bring my experience, intensity, equipment, and knowledge to help create the desired adventure for you!

The Boats & Equipment
I bow fish and gig from a fully loaded, 2072 Sea Ark boat, with a 2024 115hp Yamaha outboard with a Bob's shallow water nose cone and thru hull water pump supply... that means I can run SKINNY to get where we need to be! I use Simrad electronics, new trolling motors and generators to do the very best I can to ensure a problem free trip. Warm white lights help to make the fish more visible in our local waters, and my commercial licensing allows my clients to harvest far greater quantities of fish than the normal recreational limits almost every other charter allows. Limitless Sheephead, Stingray, and 500lb per night on slot sized black drum means you are shooting as long as you want! There are advantages at every step when fishing with Yami Outdoors!
I rod and reel fish from a brand-new Sundance DX22, a beautiful 22', tunnel hull boat with padded seats, dual baitwells, new Simrad and Minn Kota electronics and new Suzuki 150hp outboard. I do everything possible to give you a problem free, successful and comfortable trip. Rods and reels size matched to the fish we are chasing from 10lb to 150lb main line. Spinning or level wind reels to fit the desires and stand-up tackle or bent butt rods to allow even older or physically limited fishermen to catch the biggest fish in the Gulf. Fishing should be about enjoying the time on the water, catching fish, and making memories, I will do my very best to provide that!
